Creative of the Month - Keana Marie

"If you haven't gathered by now, I'm a bit of a happy hippy."

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Nice, France and when I was 8 years old I moved to Miami, Florida.

What was it like living in Europe? What do you miss the most that you can’t have in the United States?

It was refreshing, simple. I miss the food, the crisp fresh air and being able to drink the water from the streams.

At what age did you realize you had a passion for acting / music?

I've always been a very musical/theatrical kid but when I was in 7th grade I realized I didn't wanna do anything else and got signed to my first agent doing mainly commercials because the market in Miami is quite limited.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I am obsessed with tangibility and the smallest things make me happy; the starting sound of a vinyl record, the sway in the trees, the smell of new books, the look of old rustic cars, etc.

Who are your favorite artists / what are your favorite songs right now?

Rosalia, Masego, FKJ, Beyonce, Smino, Billie Eilish, Still Woozy, White Stripes...oh its endless hahah.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am now diving into my own projects. I have made it a goal to write/direct/act in my own films before the end of the year. I have a lot to show and tell and I am ready to share it with the world.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

I see myself relaxing (just a short vacay cause I will definitely still be working then) on an island, or possibly in Costa Rica, knowing that I have accomplished and worked toward my dream. In 10 years I see myself as a reputable, respected actor not only for being able to tell other people's story and my own but to allow people to feel and relate, to make them think, give them hope and aside from the acting stuff just keep spreading love and light in every possible direction.

What are some challenges you face as an actress/singer in the industry?

Staying sane in the wait game. Getting so involved/excited about a project that is between you and another, or the part is basically yours and then boom it's not anymore. Dealing with the highs and lows can be very very draining, feeling like you’re a puppet, hence get out there and make your own stories come to life!

How have you evolved the most in the past year?

If you haven't gathered by now, I am a bit of a hippy hahah I can turn negative thoughts to positive thoughts by making my temples smile hehe.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

A cat; cozy, sensuous, but also really need my independence.

How would you describe your music? Do you have plans to ever release any?

Jazzy hip hop rock n roll hahah yes I will definitely release some eventually.

How do you stay motivated?

Getting outside, getting out of my comfort zone, working out, yoga and meditation. Watching great films.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Patience keke patience. As cliché as it is, it truly is about the journey and never the destination.
